New Jersey’s Clean Power Choice

Challenge

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and its Office of Clean Energy launched the Clean Power Choice Program to give residents the opportunity to choose clean, renewable sources of energy and help fight climate change. Yet, years later, enrollment was slow and the program needed to reach more residential and commercial power consumers on a more personal level.

Approach

MWW created a program to encourage municipalities, affinity groups and nonprofits to entice consumers to the Clean Power Choice Program. To that end, our team created marketing and educational materials designed to engage potential customers with the program.

Through targeted media outreach, radio and print advertising, and regular enrollment updates within community partner areas, participation in the Program quickly rose. We distributed enrollment forms through direct mail, events and other outlets that netted maximum contact.

Impact

Within just a few months of our public relations activities, New Jersey’s Clean Power Community Partnership saw an immediate growth of more than 13,000 customers and 20 new communities. This effort more than doubled the state’s enrollment, making the Clean Power Choice the second-largest such program in the nation.
